Poems XXI

 Chivalry

in my Youth

'twas always the Pining

for a taken Lady's kerchief

astride a charger,

Shining Armor,

worthy, chaste, pure.

But now it's I at court.

A Lord.

Role romantically unrecognizable

with a heart hemmed in by the necessity of station

unless it sees what's fun and free

In the girl

(woman)

on unbridled mare of Life.

Instead of tourneys I dedicate stability

Instead of glory it is quiet.

laughs & smiles are just for me

like all the others I could have had

if not for Chivalry
